gorgeous wedding photography

one word.

wow.

I saw this on Aurie’s bf’s status.

They may dump my body in the sea or spread my ashes miles wide, but it won’t matter, all my parts will realign. They will rush to find each other when they hear their Lover’s cry. Death will be abandoned when He comes back for His bride.

Powerful stuff. :)

BEG and 2AM

I’ve been listening to BEG (Brown Eyed Girls) since the Abracadabra days and have been especially smitten by Ga-in and Narsha for their adorable personalities and pretty vocals…

THEN, I recently got introduced to 2AM and have been hooooked since – JO KWON IS SOOOO CUTE!

I know im wayyy past the boyband/girlband age but omg not only they have powerful ballad vocals, KWONNIE is a super duper dance machine! And he’s so unbelievably lovable too. *SCREAMS!*

Haha Kwonnie and Ga-in have been doing this reality show called “we got married” and i’ve had alot of fun watching them “get married” and “leading a married life”… Just so darn cute and funny. I realllly love them! haha

Here’s a snippet of their first “chocolate kiss” :)

And a vid of Ga-In trying to recognise Kwonnie’s voice from a whole studio of imposters!

AND this is one of my favourites, where Kwonnie fights for his girl in a singing duel.

I wish gordon would do silly sweet things like these once in a while. :b

And last but not least for today… Another one of my favouritest!!!

Backhug and their 2nd chocolate kiss :D

I love how Ga-in dodged around at the back while on a mission, and pounced onto Kwonnie with a vengeance. Haha… See how bashful they are!

AHHHH Ga-in and Kwonnie are SOOOO CUTE HELP!!!

You sell them and everyone retire on the income.

AN AMERICAN CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You mortgage both of them to the bank & obtain investment for two more cows,
Then re-mortgage the investment the four cows for eight cows and
continue to do likewise,
The financial market was flooding with mortgages & investments in cow’s assets,
No one knows where & who owned the original 2 cow’s …… ?
Then these 2 original cows grew old & eventually died,
You are surprised when there’s No Asset to back up the mortgage or
repay the loan ???
Finally, You ask the govt to bail out the collapse financial cow’s market!

A FRENCH CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You go on strike because you want three cows.

A JAPANESE CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You redesign them so they are one-tenth the size of an ordinary cow
and produce twenty times the milk.
You then create clever cow cartoon images called ‘Cowkimon’ and market
them World-Wide.

A GERMAN CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You re-engineer them so they live for 100 years, eat once a month, and
milk themselves.

You have two cows.
Both are mad.

AN ITALIAN CORPORATION
You have two cows, but you don’t know where they are.
You break for lunch..

A SWISS CORPORATION
You have 5,000 cows and none of which belong to you.
You charge others for storing them.

A CHINESE CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You have 300 people milking them..

You have the newsman who reported on the numbers arrested.

AN INDIAN CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You worship them.

A MALAYSIAN CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You signed a 40-year contract to supply milk at RM0.06 per litre.
Then midway through, you raised the price to RM0.60 or you cut the supply.
When the buyer agrees to the new price, you change your mind again and
now want RM1.20.
The buyer decided you can keep the milk and they go look for milk that
comes from recycled cows or the cow urine instead.
Your two cows retire together with the Prime Minister.

And last but not least,

A SINGAPOREAN CORPORATION
You have two cows,
One “cow-p**” and one “cow-b*”…

What is love? (Kids Version)

A group of 4 to 8 year-olds were asked the question, “What does love mean?”

Their answers were so adorable, so pure, and in some ways – so true.
Some of my favourite answers…

“When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.” Karen – age 7

“I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.” Lauren – age 4 (haha seriously! i used to have to steal my sister’s clothes to wear, maybe that means she doesn’t love me :( )

“Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.” Mary Ann – age 4

“Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.” Chris – age 7 (i don’t say that to Gordon… but he will say it himself. muahaha)

“Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.” Elaine-age 5 (love cannot be effectively communicated by words, but more so by actions)

“Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.” Tommy – age 6  :)

“Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.” Noelle – age 7

“Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss” Emily – age 8

“Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.” Chrissy – age 6

“Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.” Karl – age 5

“When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.” Billy – age 4

Reductionism – We know how things work, but not why.

Im currently glued to this book by Philip Yancey called “A Skeptics’s guide to Faith” & am absolutely loving it.

Someone told me that Philip Yancey isnt a particularly mezmerizing speaker in person, but he sure knows how to write a book. I’m practically stumbling on meaningful takeaways every other page in this book!

Here’re some of my favourite paraphrases/ quotes from Chap 1 – Life in Part.

Endless Invention, Endless Experiment,
Brings knowledge of motion, but not of stillness…
Where is the Life we have lost in living?
Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge?
– T.S. Eliot

I think this really hits home. The spirit of our age has the unfortunate effect of reducing things. Science offers a map of the world, something like a topogaphical map, with colors marking the vegetation zones and squiggly lines tracing contours of cliffs and hills. Yet no map of 2D or 3D can give the full picture. And no map can possibly capture the true majesty of the mountains. Encounter trumps reduction.

Einstein remarked that the modern age has the perfect means but confused ends. Physicists have reduced matter to subatomic particles and software engineers have reduced most of what we know about the world to bits of information. We know how things work, but not why.

The reducer’s approach allows no place for an invisible world. It takes for granted that the world of matter is the sum total of existence. We can measure and photograph and catalog it, we can use nuclear accelerators to break it down to its smallest particles. Looking at the parts, we judge them as the whole of reality.

But… an invisible God cannot be examined or tested… God cannot be quantified or reduced. As a result, many people in societies advanced in technology go about their daily lives assuming God does not exist. They stop short at the world that can be reduced… Materialists mistake what limits life for life itself.

And I shall end off with a parable which I feel, quite aptly depicts many of us living in this modern day and age…

Soren Kierkegaard told a parable about a rich man riding in a lighted carriage driven by a peasant who sat behind the horse in the cold and dark outside. Precisely because he sat near the artificial light inside, the rich man missed the panorama of stars outside, a view gloriously manifest to the peasant. In modern times, it seems, as science casts more light on the created world, its shadows further obscure the invisible world beyond.

I’ll probably be taking note of my favourites as i go through each chapter, but would highly recommend this book to anyone who lives outside of belief, or who’s interested in finding out how to confront the questions from the stance of a skeptic. This is really a good read & I hope i can finish it before my work kicks in proper and starts eating into my weekends!

Climate Change Economics in Bangladesh

What are the implications of climate change for Bangladesh?

Bangladesh’s geography makes it one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change. It is dominated by flood plains, with most of the land less than 12m above sea level. Bangladesh is also affected by 2 very different eco-systems (the himalayas to the north and the bay of bengal to the south). The overall result is that it has too much water during the monsoon season and too little in the winter. In an average year, approx 1 quarter of the country is inundated.

The climate change vulnerability of Bangladesh’s poor is well recognised, with 70 mil people likely to be affected by the floods annualy by 2050. While there is still considerable uncertainty about the timing and severity of climate change impacts, existing research suggests the following:

- Sea level rise leading to inundation of up to 7% of Bangladesh’s land area by 2050
- Increased frequency and intensity of cyclones
- Increased salinity in river floods,
- Heavier and more erratic rainfall during the monsoon season, and lower and more erratic rainfall in the drier north and west regions
- Higher inundation risks becos of the metling ice caps in the himalayas.

A 1m rise in sea level (expected at the end of the century) will inundate the whole of the Sundarbans. If the sea level rise is higher than currently expected and coastal polders are not strengthened or new ones built, 6-8 million pl could be displaced by 2050. Increased salinity is likely to result in the decline in rice and wheat production, and more pronounced shortage of drinking water.

Current embankments in Bangladesh are not designed to deal with 50- and 100- year storms. Embankment failure is therefore a serious possibility. Increased salinity will also lead to migration into cities from rural areas, making the management of employment and services for large members of migrants another challenge. The latter problem may be compounded in coastal cities, where ground water is likely to become more saline.

Junnebug is set to go on a Mission Trip to Bangladesh this Friday – a little anxious and a little concerned. Am i ready yet? Not sure. But I do pray so.

I have read up a little about the country, watched a couple of videos posted on the plight of  some of the villagey Bangladeshis – homes being wrecked by floods, people dying of the droughts. I do hope that God will lift them up somehow, save them people. At the same time, am looking forward to preparing my heart for this trip and making it work for me and my little mission team. Lord, please guide us and teach us how we can serve you and fulfill Your Will in this mission trip!

Paul’s Hardships

2 Corinthians 6

3We put no stumbling block in anyone’s path, so that our ministry will not be discredited. 4Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses; 5in beatings, imprisonments and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger; 6in purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love; 7in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left; 8through glory and dishonor, bad report and good report; genuine, yet regarded as impostors; 9known, yet regarded as unknown; dying, and yet we live on; beaten, and yet not killed; 10sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.

Heart wrenching : Philippines Street Kids

Following my post on the impoverished street kids spotted after my excursion to intramuros , i found some really heart wrenching pics portraying their hard lives at such a young age… We are wayyy more fortunate in comparison.

Praying hard that God will have mercy and bless them with a life that’s full of joy & laughter despite all these… and that they will go against all odds to emerge stronger and more resilient through the hardship and the challenges faced. Don’t give up hope, kids! God loves you and will give you strength to overcome everything – we’re praying for you.

Yet ANOTHER Storm

Seriously…WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO?!???

I’ve only been in the Philippines for what, 2 months? And within this short time period, the Phils has been hit by 4 tropical storms/typhoons already! Poor thing lor really. And yet again, we missed the direct impact of the storm by merely ONE day. Thank God for His mercy… but let’s pray hard that the storm will spare the pinoys and just float pass the luzon island with minimal devastation.

New typhoon to hit Philippines

MANILA: Storm-weary Filipinos were on Thursday told to prepare for another typhoon to hit the main island of Luzon during the upcoming long-weekend holiday, with rain forecast for flood-ravaged Manila. Typhoon Mirinae, already packing gusts of up to 185 kilometres (115 miles) an hour, was expected to become stronger before it slams into the Philippines on Saturday, the state weather bureau said.

“We should expect (Mirinae) to become a very intense typhoon in the next several hours or days,” weather bureau spokesman Nathaniel Cruz said on local television. Mirinae’s expected arrival comes as Luzon is still trying to recover from two devastating storms that claimed more than 1,000 lives.

Parts of Manila remain flooded after Tropical Storm Ketsana dumped the heaviest rains in more than four decades on the nation’s capital on September 26. Typhoon Parma arrived exactly one week later, then hovered over northern Luzon as a tropical storm for nearly 10 days, causing massive flooding and triggering deadly landslides. Cruz warned that Manila was likely to get more rain, potentially exacerbating the woes for more than one million people still living in flooded districts.

“If and when (Mirinae) will cross northern or central Luzon, definitely metro Manila will be affected by strong winds and rains associated with it,” Cruz said. The rain also threatens to cause havoc for millions of Filipinos living in cities who are expected to return to their home provinces at the weekend to honour their dead during All Soul’s Day on Monday, which is a public holiday.

The government this week said it had already positioned relief supplies in northern Luzon in preparation for Mirinae, while the military and other rescue units were placed on alert.

Friendship

Quote of the day from DJ Kay.

After 10 years of friendship. 1 of my friends – whom i’ve always regarded as one of my bestest girlfriends – seemed to give up trying to make it work. Was it because of that misunderstanding? Was it because you have moved on to a new exciting phase of your life? Or was it because of… well, just me? Whatever it was – there was no communication, no explanations, not even a sound from your end. I tried. But somehow, I had an inertia to try too too hard - I felt we both have some responsibilites to bear. Sadly, when i did get through to her those few times, I sense the awkwardness, the reservations, the…slight tinge of hostility. Which put me off on top of my weariness from trying.

I hope im imagining things. But I am so tired of the silence. I am scarred from the brunt of your other half, but you dont seem to even bother to talk to me about it, or comfort me in any way. I am emotionally burdened from keeping this up – like nothing has happened, like time will make everything go away. Like hell it would. No – Time does not heal ALL wounds. Anyway, if this is your decision to stay this way, I wish you both all the best. I think I need to let go and move on from here.

Sigh.

NONETHELESS.

I thank God for my other girlfriends who put a smile back on my face. :)

Especially you, who weathered storms with me, and gone through periods with little contact, but emerging as close as ever all the same. Growing up together. Going crazy together. Bitching about life together (oops! mild harmless bitching only! :p) Suppers. Drinks. Confiding in each other. You who are always on standby for me.

If you’re one of them – You know who you are. :)

Thanks for sticking by me.

“Life in Singapore”

In Singapore , the majority of us live in Highly Dangerous Buildings (HDB), and most people have already got used to Paying and Paying (PAP). Not only do you have to pay, you Pay Until Bankrupt (PUB). If that’s not enough, somebody still Purposely Wants to Dig (PWD)and get more from you.

So what more can you do when you are in the Money Only Environment (MOE)?

With the current Mad Accounting System (MAS), you are forced to
Pay the Sum Ahead (PSA),Which will leave some people Permanently Owing Some Banks (POSB). And forced to live on the Loan Techniques Always (LTA) system. When you fall sick and happen to be admitted to a Money Operating Hospital (MOH), You might be able to use your Cash Prior to Funeral (CPF)fund. If you are out of luck, y ou may meet doctors who Never Use Heart (NUH) to treat you, and you will be Sure to Give up Hope (SGH).

To help ease the traffic, motorists have to pay Cash On Expressway (COE). If that doesn’t help, they can always Eternally Raise Prices (ERP)on the roads. If you don’t own a car, you can always make a Mad Rush to the Train (MRT), OR get squashed in a bus Side By Side (SBS).

Lastly, under all these pressures, there are not many places we can relax, not even the good old place we used to go because it has become So Expensive and Nothing To See Actually (SENTOSA)!!!

The Pilipinas: Wealth gone; now health in Peril

By Babe Romualdez (The Philippine Star) Updated October 22, 2009 12:00 AM

After the devastation that washed away what little wealth people worked so hard for, now comes a number of health problems that seriously threaten even more lives. As of this writing, more than a hundred people have died of leptospirosis while the number of cases in Metro Manila and Rizal Province has spiked to 1,665 – more than twice the total number of cases monitored last year.

Another storm

Typhoon Lupit – the 3rd Typhoon to attack Manila is looming near.

Next storm to hit Philis

I was surfing randomly for news of the storm that wrecked the phils over the weekend when i came across this stormtracker.

Apparently, (and corroborated this with my phils colleagues) there will be an upcoming storm to hit the country late thursday or friday morning this week!

Pray that the typhoon/storm will not strike and cause another devastating flood like what it did earlier.. My flight back to singapore is on thursday evening so if it starts to storm, the roads leading to the airports will be unpassable! It will also be dangerous for the plane to take off with a typhoon on the loose.

I might have to extend my stay til the storm tides over and the floodwaters clear, which may take a few days over another weekend. Noooooooo….!!!

Please pray for me k? :\

Flooding in the Philippines

Another Storm report 29.9.09

Storm that flooded Philippines gathers strength, heads to Vietnam

Vietnam evacuated people and canceled flights as hurricane Ketsana neared. Meanwhile the Philippines braced for another storm. Already 240 people have died.

Leaving behind a path of destruction and 240 dead and climbing in the Philippines, hurricane Ketsana has now become a full-scale typhoon as it barrels down on central Vietnam, raising fears of another catastrophic downpour.

The storm is stronger now than when it ripped through the Philippines, with winds of more than 100 miles per hour. The eye of the storm, with even stronger winds of 126 miles per hour, was expected to touch down at 1 p.m. local time in Vietnam.
