Southern Ridges
The boy and I had an awesome day out today. We met up for lunch at China Square Central Beppu – where the food was not bad but the service was really non-existent… Then we dropped by ACTS to stock up on Christian goodness… And got peeved for a brief second by the slow service at the basement cold storage while buying 2 Starfruits & a bottle of juice. Haha yes STARFRUIT! How bizarre and random, but it tasted super!
Headed down to southern ridges and began near Hort Park. I was all in for some trekking cos i’ve seriously put on abit of weight in the month of Jan – have got some obvious tummy bulges and I can feel the kilos around my waist… AHHH! February shall be lose weight month. Only Im afraid it would require a colossal amount of effort to do so since CHINESE NEW YEAR is near! :(
The view was pretty nice. Took us 1.5 hours to get to Vivo and we were at a very comfy pace… taking jumpshots here and eating star fruits there… and we met a cute little boy who was running around chasing us sometimes and was sooo enthusiastic about mimicking my jumpshots.. Haha. Damn cute. At the end of the route my legs were jelly-like and wobbly… haven had that much outdoor “exercise” i guess. To think I used to be able to hike up Mount Kinabalu with such ease! Haiz. Time to get back in shape!
Kim Gary’s spicy pork chop noodles has never failed me once – Thats what i ALWAYS eat when im there. Yum yum. We had awfully chocolate ice cream for dessert and that was greeeat too! Then we were window shopping for diamonds and had alot of fun picking and probing. I tried to get something for mom for CNY but didnt see anything worthy to buy. Hmm. Guess i’ll have to do it in the Phils next weekend.
Sigh.
Why do the weekends past by so fleetingly? :’(
Da Vinci Exhibition

Gordon & I took some time off our afternoon to visit the Science center today. We heard about this exhibition from Mr. Tan (aka Jason), who thought it would be well worth our time (& money). At first I was not very excited about going for an exhibition – afterall, the science centre is so tiny, how much awe and wonder can it contain?
But then it really proved me wrong.
Da Vinci was truly a Genius.
I was amazed and captivated by all the re-created models and reproduced art pieces! These include drawings of the human anatomy; brilliant models of simple but amazing equipments made of ball bearings, pulleys, and gears; unearthing the true colours of the original Mona Lisa, Virgin on the rocks, Vitruvian Man, amongst many others. The exhibition hall was rather small & compact… but if you were to spend abit of time appreciating each and every exhibit, you could easily stay there for 3-4 hours.
I cant help but rant about the itchy fingers and blinded eyes of some kids (AND PARENTS) though. While the exhibits were displayed in open space, there were quite a few that had signs on them clearly stating “DO NOT TOUCH“… but some uncles and aunties still went ahead and openly tried to spin the wheels, pull the levers, or just randomly run their hands all over them! OMG i tell you if i was in a worse mood i would volunteered to gladly go around LOUDLY REPRIMANDING their actions. Kids – ok, maybe they missed the signs. But with their parents at the same exhibits i feel strongly about those parents taking their kids into hand! The organisors have been so kind as to do away with glass boxes and barricades so we can get close to them exhibits, but some people just love to take advantage of the situation & as a result, i found a number of the exhibits either worn out or spoilt. Thats damn bloody irresponsible – these bo chap parents! Too bad cannot take photos in the venue, else i’ll definitely take photos (WITH FLASH) when they’re running their dirty fingers through the exhibits. And then email these photos to the organisors so they know who’s responsible for the spoilt models.
-huff puff-
Phew. That was quite a rant.
Anyhow, there’s just 2 more weeks before the exhibition ends so if you’re interested, do go down and have a look :)

Mona Lisa
Inventor, artist, scientist, engineer, sculptor, anatomist, biologist, musician, architect, philosopher ….. Leonardo da Vinci was all of these things!
Leonardo left behind precious little for us to marvel at and what he did leave behind is for the main, only on permanent display in many esteemed museums in different cities around the world; and its not moving anywhere, for anyone! Or like the original Vitruvian Man housed in Venice, his originals are considered too fragile and precious to even be on display.
The challenge was, how does one create an exhibition that showcases his full genius under the one roof, and create it in such a way so it can readily travel around the world and be viewed in all the leading cities for the populous to enjoy.
Grande Exhibitions and The Anthropos Association (creators of Il Genio di Leonardo da Vinci Museo, Rome, Italy) formed a very strong and exclusive partnership to do just this, sharing a combined vision for such a showcase international travelling exhibition: Da Vinci – The Genius.
With the vision of Grande Exhibitions the exhibition moves beyond machine inventions, incorporating an amazing display of the images by French Scientific Engineer Pascal Cotte and his startling 25 revelations on the Mona Lisa (see Secrets of Mona Lisa), reproductions of Leonardo’s codices and most famous renaissance art in actual size, an amazing collection of anatomical sketches, the famous Anghiari Battle Preparatory Drawings and entertaining and educational animations in 3D/HD of The Last Supper, the Vitruvian Man, the creation of the Mona Lisa nd one of Leonardo’s most ambitious projects, the Sforza Horse Sculpture.
Many exhibit items are interactive, some are to scale, some are life size whilst others are oversize; all made to enhance the impact and viewing experience for the visitor. This has helped Grande Exhibitions produce the most comprehensive and complete exhibition travelling the world on a man who is arguably the greatest genius of all time.
A new addition to the Da Vinci – The Genius exhibition is the Secrets of Mona Lisa display. French scientific engineer and photographer of fine art, Pascal Cotte was granted unprecedented access by the French Government and The Louvre Museum to conduct an extensive scientific evaluation of this masterpiece. He did so under strict security and supervision, taking her out of her frame and away from the protective glass enclosure. His photographic examination and findings have startled the art world – making 25 revelations including identifying her original pigment colours, proving she indeed did have eyebrows and eyelashes and producing the world’s only 360 ° walk around replica.
The key works of this extraordinary exhibition include:
- Large scale Machine Inventions, many interactive, crafted by modern day Artisans in Italy. The machines are based on the Artisan’s meticulous and lengthy studies into Leonardo’s codices
- Facsimiles of a fascinating collection of Codices
- Life & Times of Leonardo da Vinci presentation
- Leonardo’s mysterious Alphabet & writing technique
- Reproductions of da Vinci’s amazingly accurate and detailed Anatomical Drawings
- Reproductions of famous Da Vinci Renaissance Artwork in actual size
- The Anghiari Battle Preparatory Drawings
- The famous Vitruvian Man image and explanation in a world exclusive 3D animation
- The Last Supper 3D animation
- The creation of the Mona Lisa in 3D animation
- The Great Sforza Horse Sculpture in 3D animation
- Educational Programs – Primary and Secondary levels
- Da Vinci Documentary

Sing Dollar!

Go watch it if you havent :)
Loved the cast.
Loved the relevance.
Loved the songs.
Liked the jokes.
Liked the plot.
And adored the characters depicted in Sing Dollar!
The boyfriend and I watched Sing Dollar this evening at the esplanade. We sat at Circle 3 but still had a very good view of the entire act! Cheap some more, only S$38. :) Although we were quite a distance up from the stage our view was unobstructed – to our surprise we didnt have bend over at all… hee. The cast was truly star studded with our very own selena, emma, pam oei… (aka dim sum dollies), hossan, kumar and najip ali. They acted out their characters very endearingly singaporean and we could totally connect with it. The drinks stall aunty, the bangla worker, the filipino maid, the malay cleaner.. haha. I cant help but smile just thinking about them now! My fave was the bangla starring kumar though, he was absolutely hilarious.
Highly recommended!
Before that, you could drop by glutton’s bay (aka the tourist trap) to have a good old singaporeanish dinner – quite apt for the show! Well… the food there is definitely overpriced, but its a convenient place that all the local fried fare are congregated together – so thats mainly the reason why we dont mind dining there. :) Anyways we had Chicken wings (S$1.30 per wing), Satay (S$7 for 10 sticks.. omg i know, super ex), Char kway teow (S$4) & Carrot cake (S$4)! If you’re a fan of fruit juices, try the green apple + celery @ S$2.70 – i bought that today and felt it was pretty helpful to counter the heaty-ness of all those unhealthy stuff we ate!
Back to work tomorrow so gotta sleep now.
Goonight ya’all! :)
The remedy for a bad tan
Fun people + Great weather + Exciting sport = An awesome day out ytd with a whole load of fun & a very good tan! :)
We were out since 730am in the morning and were back in Singapore at 730pm. Thats one whole day of fantastic wakeboarding experience and, thanks be to God, an amazing weather for our water activity! Although i tried this before it was a ruddy long time ago and it took me a coupla hours before i could get up and get going… haha the smacking face down into the water was damn funny! Except when swallowing a mouthful of disgusting water was involved. Pleh!
I wanted to try doing the stunts but chickened out after a few rounds… i just didnt have the guts to try it! Nevermind… NEXT TIME! Broke my record the other time i wakeboarded though, i hung on for a good 4 rounds before my arms were too wobbly to hold on any longer! Wheee. Those arms, however, are extremely sore right now due to overexertion, probably. Haha. And so are my thighs and shoulders and neck! Oh god i feel like just lying in bed the whole day today.
The harris spa was a damn disappointment though. Massage techniques were amateurish and they cut short our massage time to just 1/2 an hour! Probably to give us time to shower..but then.. how can like that! Im probably never going back again. Holiday inn beats it hands down. Although its like twice the price.. hmmm.
Anyways, I went for Hot yoga after we returned from cableski yesterday. So crazy i know! But i thought perhaps a little bit of good stretching will do me some good after our streneous sports in the day. Hmm cant say it worked damn well but i do believe it helped a little. I didnt feel as sore as the previous time me and shuwei cableski-ed!
Dont know when’s the next time we can go cableskiing again. Sigh.
Life as a senior is not as easy as it sounds.
Just have to pray and hope in the Lord that everything is going to be just fine. :)
